CESMAT WITHIN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: 35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN MINING MANAGEMENT STAFF DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION
The Center for Advanced
Studies of Mineral Resources, is an advanced studies institution for upper management personnel
working in mining. The program of study has seven separate year-long training programs , a network of 2 562 former students in 2010 from 115 countries with whom regular contact is maintained, and a permanent think tank unit that concentrates on the training of mining sector managers.
The Center was initially
established to encourage exchanges among the various sectors of technical
mining expertise, with the four programs concentrating on prospecting and
processing minerals, the assessment of deposits and underground and open cut
ore extraction techniques. CESMAT has constantly kept abreast of international
developments and of new problems encountered by the industry. The three most
recent programs deal with market economies, the environment and the role of the
State.
CESMAT has a lightweight and flexible structure, with thirty-three years of experience in dispensing innovative training that is based on an exchange of experiences between profesionnals. The center provides a program that is veritably tailored to students'home country working conditions.
The guiding principle for CESMAT is that cooperation and training hold a special position in French policy concerning relations with mineral producing countries. Using this as a base, the Center fulfills the long-term mission confided to it by the Ministry in charge of mines, which is to establish a network of relations with producing countries.
