THINK TANK

The CESMAT Think Tank was established in 1978. It allows leading French and foreign experts to openly discuss the problems of engineer training programs and what type of aid developing countries can expect from industrialized countries in the mineral resources sector. The following two brochures emanating from think tank sessions have been published and distributed widely within the profession:

- "Management Training for Mining Companies : Outline of an Economic Development Theory in the Third World" ;

- "New Ideas on Underdevelopment".

As of 1994, the think tank began drawing directly from students enrolled in the programs each year, concentrating on the following :

- Training and supervision problems for personnel of modern mines ;

- Changes in the world economy related to the mineral resources sector: the role of mineral-producing nations and strategies of mining companies.

The minutes of these sessions are regularly published in the CESMAT bulletin.
