CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experienced engineers or geologists or members of management staff coming from extractive industries, or control and consulting organizations for this industry.

PROGRAM OF STUDIES, 2010-2011

Introduction and revision (4 weeks): structural geology, petrography, geostatistics, GIS.

Module 1 : Environmental studies: biosciences and ecosystem, extractive minerallurgy, meteorology...

Module 2 : Security: safety in mines and quarries, ISO 18001, anticipation of risks, toxicology of mining industry...

Module 3 : Dams: soil mechanics + classwork, calculation of flooding, tailing dams, geotechnics...

Module 4 : Environmental chemistry: sampling of polluted sites, metrology of the environment...

Module 5 : Removing pollutants from waters: elements of hydrogeology, mass transfer in a porous and fractured milieu, cleining up sites...

Module 6 : Redevelopment: stocks of mine tailings, decommissioning and decontamination of dangerous industrial sites, environment - landscaping, replanting concepts and strategies...

Module 7 : Sound and vibratory pollution: noise and acoustic pollution, means of reducing noise levels, explosives: use, limits: method of calculation, extracting in open and/or underground mines...

Module 8 : Law and impact studies: environmental management in mines, legislation of impact studies, French procedures of impact studies, ISO 14000, ISO 9000...

Module 9 : Stability of mine works, landslides, working methods for underground mines...

Visits to industrial and mining installations and to rehabilitation sites (16 days)

Student project (12 weeks)


DIPLOMA

Candidates meeting the admission requirements (5 years of post-graduate studies) are awarded a national French specialization grade conferred by the Ministry in charge of Mines and an Expert diploma from CESSEM, conferred jointly by CESMAT and the Alès School of Mines. Other candidates are awarded a training certificate from the Alès School of Mines.
