CANDIDATE PROFILE

Engineers, geologists and managers working in or for the mining industry.

Mineral and waste processing

Module 2 :   Evaluation methods of mineral reserves (1 weeks)

Traditional methods / Linear geostatistics / Difficulties in assessing mineral reserves

Module 3 :   Managing the economy of a mining company (3 weeks)

Mining in France / General economy / Discounted cash-flow calculations
Revenues and expenditures of mining companies
Mining project feasibility and assessment of risk

Module 4 :   Mine planning (1 week)

Long term planning / Short term planning

Module 5 :   The environment of Mining operations (2 weeks)

Raw materials market / Mining law / Environmental studies
Case studies of mining properties and mining projects
Mining and sustainable development

Module 6 :   Computer assisted exploration workshop CLAIM (4 weeks)

From initial exploration to mining projects pre-selection

Module 7 :   Technical study of a mining project : courses and practical exercises (2 weeks)

Mine infrastructure / Selection of mining methods
Selection of mining equipment
Investment, manpower and operating costs

Module 8 :   Financing and implementation of mining projects (2 weeks)

Taxation, financing mining projects
External growth : example of industrial minerals
Construction of a mine and a processing plant

Module 9 :   Economic study of a mining project : courses and practical exercises (3 weeks)

Economic assessment of mining projects / Sensitivity analysis and risk evaluation

Visits to mines and to manufacturers of mining equipment (3 x 1 week)

Individual project (12 weeks)


DIPLOMA

Successful students are awarded a national French diploma in specialized training conferred by Mines ParisTech and the Ministry in charge of mines.
