CANDIDATES PROFILE

Geologists or engineers with at least 2 years experience in industrial operations in the areas of prospecting, mining geology or ore processing.

2010-2011 PROGRAM

Core program (300 h)

Ore depostits, Industrial minerals and materials, Mining, Sampling, Characterisation of mineral matter, Extractive metallurgy, Mineral processing, Mining economics (macro and microeconomic studies of raw materials and mining projects), Mining environment, Feasibility studies and mineral reserves analysis.

Specialisation: Exploration and mining geology** (150 h)

Geostatistics, Prospecting methods (applied Geochemistry and Geophysics), Regional geology and mine projects, Industrial minerals orebodies.

Specialisation: Mineral processing** (150 h)

Advanced physico-chemistry, Ore processing methods and technologies, Calcultation of dimensioning of circuits, mass and chemical balances, Use of specific software, Technologies derived from ore processing for the environment and recycling.

Micro-thesis (200 h)

Project on mineral economics, mining geology and/or ore processing (industrial or lab scale), with report and oral presentation.

Field trip and visits on active or closed sites (70 h)

Main topics: Mining, Mineral processing, Mining geology, Mine and environment.

References review and projects in groups (100 h)

Internship in industry (2 months)

** Each student must follow both specialisations

DIPLOMA

Studies culminate with an Expert diploma conferred by the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine (French Ministry for Higher Education and Research). Candidates meeting the admission requirements may also postulate for a professional Master.
